Our Trainers

Patti Kiersted moved Glenview Farm to Zayante Creek Equestrian Center June 1, 2003. Along with Patti came a fun, energetic group of horse enthusiasts that thoroughly enjoy their horses. There is strong sense of camaraderie and that gives our barn We have been very fortunate to have her at Zayante Creek Equestrian Center.


Patti Kiersted

Patti Kiersted is a life-long equestrian who began riding in hunter/jumper competition in Long Island, New York, at the age of ten. Patti has trained with many highly regarded experts in the field, including Harry De Leyer (the "Grandfather of Show Jumping"), Linda Allen, Audrey Goldsmith, and John Lyons, among others. She has been training riders and horses, in all disciplines, in the Santa Cruz County for twenty years. Overall, she has forty years experience in all aspects of horsemanship, including riding, training, showing and stable management. Patti's approach to training emphasizes safety and enjoyment for both horse and rider. She welcomes students of all ages, abilities and disciplines. While she specializes in Hunter/Jumper and Equitation, she has substantial experience training students and horses in Western Pleasure, trail riding, basic Dressage, and endurance. Her students have achieved a high degree of success at all levels of competition, from schooling shows to A-circuit shows. Patti herself has successfully ridden her horse Banner in the Show Jumper division for eleven years.


Julia Weekes

Julia Weekes began riding at age 8 in Orange County, California with Wildwood Farm’s trainer, Mary Slouka. During her 10 years as a junior rider and working student, she gained experience in horsemanship, training, teaching, and hunter/ jumper competition. Enjoying sponsorships and catch rides, Julia earned championships in hunters, jumpers, and equitation / medals in prestigious competitions, such as Indio in 1995 and 1996, Santa Barbara National, GTE Summer Classic, the Oaks, and OCHSA sanctioned shows.

In 1996, Julia moved to Baltimore, Maryland to compete in IHSA for Goucher College Varsity Equestrian team. In 2001 she began riding in Santa Cruz area. Julia has enjoyed training and riding her ex-racehorse Regal Bob in the hunter divisions for the past 2 years. Julia began working for Patti Kiersted at Zayante Creek Equestrian Center in early 2005.
